Katheryn
Although practicing yoga throughout most of her adult life, Katheryn became particularly interested in yoga after her breast cancer diagnosis in 2003. Trying to find, understand and live with her “new normal”, she returned to her mat with a new found appreciation for her body. Her classes reflect her desire to bring balance into her life physically, emotionally and spiritually. Katheryn invites anyone with "New Beginnings" to join her class, that is, recovering from illness, entering a new decade (simply aging), facing the empty nest or just wanting to enhance your other activities. The classes are made up of meditation, asanas (poses), and relaxation with lots of positive affirmations sprinkled in. Stretching, strengthening, breath work and focusing can help us to understand our inner self and go about our daily lives with more clarity and energy. Katheryn has earned her YogaFit Level 1 Certification and has studied with Stephaine Keach of Asheville Yoga to receive her Restorative and Yin Yoga Certifications. Being a nurse also helps Katheryn understand the importance of total body wellness. The only requirement is to be able to Breathe!

I first started doing yoga in elementary school. My counselor suggested yoga as an alternative to medication. I was taught asanas to help me focus and concentrate. Years later, yoga and I were reunited and my journey truly began.  For me the awareness of the mind/body connection yoga teaches has become a way of life.
I love being living proof that yoga is for every body type.  At first, I was often intimidated by the slender, graceful bodies of my instructors, but as my practice improved I came to realize "big girls" can do yoga, too. I believe that anyone can and everyone should do yoga.

I have studied under several different instructors, taken many workshops and my practice reflects all styles of yoga. Being a teacher has taught me so much about myself, my practice and people.
