Heart Center Yoga- Teacher Ethics
As a yoga teacher I will:
integrate my yoga each day through the practice of asana, pranyama, meditation and by living the core principles of yama and niyama- both on and off the mat
encourage students to seek another qualified professional if I cannot teach them due to an illness, disability or injury that is beyond my ability, knowledge or experience
protect the identity and welfare of yoga students by maintaining confidentiality of records and all written and verbal communication- this includes refraining from using names when discussing specific examples for teaching and learning purposes
accurately and honestly represent my credentials as a teacher as well as the benefits of yoga
conduct myself both in class and in my life with integrity, honesty, and respect for myself and others- this includes physical appearance, language and conduct both on and off the mat
recognize the imbalance of power that occurs with my students and will maintain a professional working relationship with them which includes refraining from sexual relationships
honor all lineages of yoga both past and present and speak respectfully of other teachers and styles of yoga
welcome all students regardless of race, sexual orientation, culture, religion, gender, appearance or financial status- this includes an awareness of the interpersonal dynamics of the classroom- and I will make an effort to build connections and rapport inclusive of all students
work for comm-UNITY among yoga teachers, healing arts and all sentient beings
recognize the necessity in being both a student and a teacher simultaneously- and the need to continue to grow and learn on this journey
create a safe, clean and sacred environment that promotes positive learning and personal growth for any size group
guide and educate students based on my professional and personal experience while encouraging each student to become their own best teacher independent of me
